Coach Morgan Wheat
Coach Morgan Wheat “MoSweet”, as we call him, has been involved with basketball and coaching most of his life. Having grown up in West Des Moines, he was a three-year starter for the West Des Moines Valley Tigers where he still holds the schools scoring records, twice guiding the Tigers to the State Tournament as well as earning first team All-State honors in back-to-back seasons.

He was named Iowa's Gatorade Player of the Year in 1988 as a senior. He attended Vanderbilt University playing in one NCAA tournament and then being a part of the 1991 NIT championship team before transferring to Iowa State. He helped the Cyclones to a second place finish in the Big Eight and an NCAA berth in 1993 where he was academic all Big 8 his senior year.

Post college, Coach Wheat spent time playing professionally in Mexico and Indonesia and for the last 10 years he has been an assistant varsity boys coach at North High-school in Des Moines.

Coach Wheat is passionate about not only coaching but mentoring and guiding today’s youth to success! He is married to his wife Paige of 15 years and has 2 children, Theo and Lila.
